Vamana Karma/Emesis therapy – Vamana is the expulsion of the morbid Doshas. They are expelled from the pylorus through the mouth. Medicated drugs are given internally in the form of powder, decoction and juice, at which point vomiting is induced. This therapy is given for bronchial asthama, gastritis, skin disorders, sinusitis, glandular swellings, diabetes and neurological ailments related to Kapha.
Virechana/Purgation therapy – Virechana is the expulsion of the morbid Doshas through anorectal region. This therapy is given for skin ailments, liver disorders, piles, fistula, neurological disorders, glandular disorders and disorders in which Vamana karma is indicated.
Basti therapy – Basti literally means “urinary bladder”. Nowadays syringes and enema cans are used. Basti consists of two therapies: Niruha and Anuvasana Basti. Basti involves administration of medications through the anus into the sigmoid colon. This therapy is given to treat Vata Dosha and also to treat osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, arthiritis (vascular disorder), gout (metabolic disorder) and cystitis (urinary disorder).
Nassya therapy – In this therapy, medications are instilled into the nostrils. This therapy is given to treat eye and ENT disorders, headaches, cervical spondylitis and brachial neuralgia.

Kati Basti – Retention of oil for certain period over lumbo -sacral region.
Medicated oil is poured over the lower back and retained inside the black gram paste boundary for the required duration depending on the conditions and disease. The healing properties of herbal oils used for this therapy deeply enrich the blood flow, build and maintain strong muscle and connective tissues and lubricate the joints keeping them flexible and pain-free.
Katibasti alleviates lower back conditions like Lumber Spondylosis, Inter-vertebral disc prolapses, Lumbago (low back ache), and Sciatica.
Greeva Basti – Retention of oil for certain period over cervical region.
Medicated oil is poured over the neck and retained inside the black gram paste boundary for the required duration depending on the conditions and disease. The healing properties of herbal oils used for this therapy deeply enrich the blood flow, build and maintain strong muscle and connective tissues, and lubricate the joints, keeping them flexible and pain free. Greevabasti alleviates neck and upper back conditions like Cervical Spondylosis, stiff neck, pain due to over strain and brachial neuralgia.
Shirodhara(tailadhara) – Medicated special oil is poured on the forehead and head continuously. It is a treatment that profoundly relaxes the central nervous system. This will tune up the brain and will improve memory. This treatment is also good for preventing and curing diseases like paralysis, senile dementia and other neurological ailments. Further, with appropriate medicines, this procedure can also be employed in psychiatric and psychosomatic diseases, insomnia and even in general debility.
Thakradhara – It is a relaxing therapy done by pouring medicated buttermilk on the forehead. Indicated for insomnia, depression, burning sensation in the head and psoriasis
Snehapana – This is administration of Medicated Ghee and mainly done as preparation for Panchakarma. The selected ghee is given according to the digestive power of the patient. The quantity is increased daily. The minimum days are two days and the maximum is seven days. Mainly used before the Vamana and Virechana therapy.
Abhyanga – This full-body massage is done with medicated herbal oils in a synchronized manner for 30 to 45 minutes. It helps to relieve the stiffness of joints and muscles, increases blood circulation, removes metabolic wastes, and relieves early aging, fatigue, anxiety, circulatory disorders, rheumatic and arthritic problems, backaches and injuries./p>
Kayasheka – Medicated oil is poured on the body for about one hour daily, for three, five, seven or 14 days. This therapy will prevent ageing, wrinkles and is widely used to cure rheumatism, arthritis and in many spastic muscular disorders.
Udhvartana – This is a typical deep and dry massage using herbal powders. The dry powder massage reduces blood cholesterol, obesity, skin problems, imparts mobility to the joints, strengthens muscles and refreshes the body.
Janu Basti – Retention of oil for a certain period over knee region.
Medicated oil is poured over the knee and retained inside the black gram paste boundary for the required duration depending on the conditions and disease. The healing properties of herbal oils used for this therapy deeply enrich the blood flow, build and maintain strong muscle and connective tissues and lubricate the joints keeping them flexible and pain-free. Good in Osteoarthritis and degenerative disease of knee.
Netra Tarpana – Retention of ghee or other medication for a certain period over the eye.
Netra Tarpana treatment has a relaxing effect on the eyes and surrounding tissue. This treatment helps remove impurities from the eyes, strengthens the retina and optic nerve and improves eyesight.
Karnapoorana – After massaging the external ear, the medicated warm oil is instilled in the form of drops inside the ear and retained for few seconds. It is very useful in Otalgia, Tinnitus and deafness.
Upanaha – This therapy is well-known for its properties of relieving pain and swelling and nourishing the tissues. It is done by application of herbal paste over the affected area, covering the applied paste with medicinal herbal leaves and bandaging over that with cotton cloth. This application will be removed after a few hours, as per the requirement. This therapy is very effective in Osteoarthritis, joint injuries and localized pain and swelling.
Pichu – A thick layer of cotton wool soaked with warm medicated oil is applied over the affected area. The oil is recycled periodically to make it warm. This therapy is very effective for degenerative and painful problems like back pain, Osteo-arthritis, Spondylitis, and other injuries.
Lepa – This is the application of herbal paste externally over the affected area. The herbal powder and the medium to make the paste are selected as per the condition. This therapy is having a wide range of usage from cosmetic purpose to severe skin conditions. It is very effective on Psoriasis, pimples, marks on skin and pigmentation, arthritis with swelling and pain, injuries and skin infections.
Parisheka – Here in this therapy the medicated oils or decoctions of various herbs are sprinkled over the body or over a particular area for a certain period of time. This therapy is useful to improve circulations, helps in lymphatic drainage, decreases congestion and decreases the inflammatory process .It is useful in cases of Peripheral Neuritis, unhealed ulcers and gangrene.
Ksheeradhooma – This therapy begins with the application of suitable medicated oil on the face, neck and chest. The face and neck are then subjected to steam generated from a combination of cow’s milk and herbal decoctions. This therapy is effective for facial paralysis, Trigeminal Neuralgia, pimples and other skin problems.
Gandusha – This therapy involves the retention of medicated oil or decoction in the mouth for several minutes. It helps in diseases of mouth, throat, teeth, ear and nose.
Ksheeradhara – It is as relaxing a treatment as Shirodhara, but instead of herbal oil, medicated herbal milk is poured over the forehead or over the whole body. It is generally good for people suffering from headaches, insomnia and mental tension.
Kavala – This therapy requires the retention, movement and gargling of medicated oil or decoction in the mouth. This process is highly beneficial for ear, nose and throat disorders, improves the voice and brings a glow to the face.
Shastika Shali Pinda sweda – This is a process by which hot medicinal cooked rice tied in a cloth in a bolus form is applied on the whole body or part. The procedure offers better physical consistency, strengthens the nerves and improves complexion. This is indicated in Neuromuscular Degeneration, rheumatism, arthritis, emaciation of limbs, and pain in the joints. This treatment is restorative and nourishing.
Patrapinda Sweda – Boluses of fried herbal leaves will be warmed by dipping them in medicated warm oil and then massaged all over the body. This therapy is effective for various kinds of arthritis, Spondylosis, back pain, sports injuries and for all other soft-tissue inflammations, especially joint pains.
Rooksha Sweda – In this therapy, the whole body is massaged with herbal powder boluses tied in cloth. This treatment is useful for obesity, neurological disorders, rheumatism, arthritis, etc.
Hrit Dhara – This is an external therapy wherein lukewarm medicated decoctions are retained over the cardiac region in a boundary prepared out of black gram flour. It is very beneficial in certain cardiac diseases like Cardic Myopathy, palpitations; Hypertension.
